September 2008 “Gracias” Update

Dear Friends:

“….The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons….”  1 Timothy 4:1 NIV

The mission field is full “things taught by demons.”  In Mexico, the “in thing” among criminals such as drug dealers, kidnappers and murderers, is to worship “La Santa Muerte”  (Holy Death).  One of the central beliefs is that the end of all things is death, so we might as well get in good terms with it while we are still alive.   What a contrast to what Jesus has to offer!  “I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in me will live, even though he dies.”   John 11:25 NIV

In August groups start dwindling down but we still had one group go to Tepic from Union Christian Church, Terre Houte, Indiana.  This group was led by Kim and Mickey White, they accomplished lots of work on the Bible college dormitories and bathrooms.  Thank you!  We had a small group from Liscomb Church of Christ, Liscomb, Iowa.  This group made it possible to have our elementary school ready for opening on August the 18th.  Then at the end of the month came a large group from Duncanville Church of Christ, Duncanville TX.,  This group does a weekend mission emphasis with our community kids and the children from our church.  Our elementary school is now three weeks old!  We have 76 children enrolled grades 1-6 (only one in 6th) which means that it has been a great success.  There have been lots of details and procedures to be done but we are under way!  Please pray for our teachers and staff.  Our preschool has enrolled to capacity again; over 120 children attend the kindergarten school with a few on a waiting list.  Special thanks to Parkview Christian Church that sent funds to be able to install AC units in all 6 classrooms and principal’s office.  We were also able to install nice tile floors with this help, plus get lots of school supplies….  Thank you!!

On other news,  Jair and his three sons:  Mayelo, Memo and Chava made a dream come true in middle August:  To ride motorcycles on a 1,200 mile round  trip to Zacatecas, Mexico where Jair is from.  It was quite and experience, we know many were praying for us and we made it back safe and sound!

On better news:  Sergio reports of 6 baptisms in Acapulco, Praise the Lord!

Please do not forget that we need a good 15 passenger van for the work here in Mexico!

God bless you, Thank you!
